The Key2Free is a faith-based, non-profit, non-governmental organization working to rescue and restore victims of human sex trafficking. Our team fights for victim’s rights, forges relationships with the community, educates and brings awareness to our state, and provides shelter to trafficking survivors.
Human Trafficking defined:
Human trafficking is the illegal trade of human beings, mainly for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation and forced labor. As the world’s fastest growing criminal industry, it affects every nation across the globe. Every thirty seconds, someone is forced into this type of bondage—modern slavery.
Just a few statistics:
20% – The percentage of human trafficking cases in the United States that occur in Texas. (US Department of Justice)
1 in every 5 victims of human trafficking in the United States travels through Texas along the I10 corridor. (TX Office of the Attorney General)
27 million – The number of victims trapped in modern day slavery around the world. (Polaris Project, A21)
1 million – The number of children exploited by the global commercial sex trade every year. (US Department of State)
32 Million – The total yearly profits generated by the human trafficking industry. (Polaris Project)
12 – The average age of a victim of human trafficking. (US Department of Justice)
Our first safe house opened in January 2014, and is dedicated to survivors of sex trafficking. We are currently growing to two safe houses and 2 transitional homes for these survivors. These homes will be a place where survivors can feel safe. We walk them from trauma to stabilization, as well as providing the tools to equip them for the future, and guide them in their next steps beyond our care. Our goal is to renew, restore and equip these survivors for a future free of human trafficking.
